"Uncle Alex" was conscripted into the Confederate Army but deserted. I believe he served the Union for the remainder of the war and perhaps even afterwards in some Western campaigns. He settled at Phiadelphia, Pa., and married Jennie (surname unknown), who had been his nurse. In their later years they resided briefly at Silver Hill, NC, with his brother John; however, they returned to Philadelphia and ended their days in the Soldiers and Sailors Home there. They had no issue.
