My grandmother was Alice E. Britt, the daughter of Charles Garfield Britt, and Avington was his father. Charles had 3 daughters, Alice, Mildred, and Flossie. Flossie died young in childbirth, and is buried at Palestine cemetery in Henderson County, TN, as are Charles and her mother, Harriett Mullins Britt. Many times my grandmother and great Aunt Mildred spoke of Uncle Jim, Uncle Cas, Aunt, Martha, and Aunt Mandy.
Below is a link from Reeds Chapel Funeral Home which will provide some evidence in addition to my memories that the above information is correct:

I do not know the identity of Mrs. Helen Powers, who gave the funeral home the information (presumably at the time of Charles death in 1964). I expect there was a transcription in listing Maudy instead of Mandy. She left off his sister Martha.
Also, I believe that many people thought that Avington's name was Alf, and that was due to the shortened Av sounding like Alf.
Below is a link that lists burial at Palestine Cemetery in Henderson County.

Under Avington, you list a male Britt born in April 1884. My guess is that you got that from the 1900 census of Madison County, TN, and could not make out the first name. From the cemetery record at the link above, you can see that Cas M. Britt was born on 15 Apr 1884. However, his parents were incorrectly listed by the cemetery researcher as Nathan Wesley & Dona (Cogdel) Britt.
Also, in the 1900 census of Henderson County, Tennessee, Charles Britt, born 1881, is listed with his Uncle William Britt. Also listed with William Britt is another nephew, Edmund Pollack. Per the 1910 census, this William is identified as William T., born about 1854. Charles may have been born in 1881 as shown on his tomb stone, or on 02/09/1880 as shown on the funeral home records.
My dad and I went to Maples Springs back about 15 years ago (my dad has since passed away) because my dad had heard that he was Alf was buried there. We did not find a marker for Alf or for Avington, so the grave must be unmarked. My dad was born in November 1921, so he must have been no older than 7 when he last saw Avington. My dad remembered him as a large man with a big white beard. I could not convince him that the name was not Alf. I guess Av and Alf still sound a lot a like, and the mind interprets as what is most familiar.
