2 (From the work of Allen Wallace)

William P. Wallace was probably William Pickney Wallace because his nickname was "Pink". He was killed in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. William and his brother, Leonard Harris, enlisted May 27, 1861 in Company C, 23rd NC Regiment of the Confederate Army (the 23rd Regiment, commanded by Colonel D. H. Christie, was a part of Brigadier General Alfred Iverson's Brigade, of Major General R. E. Rode's Division of the Second Corps, commanded by Lieutenant General R. S. Ewell). There is no record of the burial site of William. It is likely that is was in a common grave near the battlefield.

A bronze tablet on a granite pedestal standing on North Confederate Avenue commemorates the loss of lives of Iverson's brigade on the Gettysburg battlefield. It was near this site which is north & west of the town, on July 1, 1863 the first day of the battle, that the brigade suffered heavy losses of men killed or captured. William was killed this day.

21 *Note Only circumstantial evidence points to Delphy Lakey being the mother of Josiah and Celia Wallace.

William L. Wallace was involved in several court cases with Delphy Lakey, Elizabeth Smith & Mary Davis in the early 1840's. It has been passed down through family history that these court cases were in regards to William L. Wallace living with more than one woman at one time. It was ruled that he must marry one or he would go to jail. He married Elizabeth Smith.

In additional evidence supporting Delphy Lakey as the mother of William J. and Celia - In April 1857, Celia Wallace (daughter of William Lane) was listed as Cela Lakey on a bastardy bond court record.

1844, Spring -- Superior Court Execution Docket, Moore County, NC
State v. Polly Campbell & Celia Mainer
Delphy Wallace was listed as a witness

Delphy Lakey is not listed in any census that I have found, but a bastardy bond listed in the Moore County Court Minutes in April 1857 lists Devotion Davis as the father and Celia Lakey as the Mother. This is the Celia that is reported to be William L. Wallace's daughter.

Again, this is only speculation at this point.

22 *Note While I have yet to find conclusive proof that Doxy/Dory was the daughter of George Horner and Priscilla Winslow, I have included her as I believe the circumstantial evidence is pretty strong.

1 - George and Priscilla were the only family of Horners to move to Moore County from Orange County during the time period.

2 - We know from the 1820 Orange County Census, 1830/1840 Moore County Census that George and Priscilla had a couple of daughters around Doxy/Dory's age.

3 - Doxy/Dory and her husband George Williams named two of their children George and Priscilla.
Horner, Doxy (I03435)

23 *Note - It is my belief that Ann Mariah was the child of Shadrach Maness and a previous marriage. I believe the distance between the Ann Mariah (b. 1800) and next child, Catherine (b. 1814) points to a previous marriage. Also, this would make Celia Wallace Maness' 1st daughter was named Catherine and her first son was named Everet after her parents.
