  Cagle Family of Moore County, NC - Miscellaneous Records The enclosed is a timeline and accounting of early Cagle references in Moore County and Cumberland County.

  [S1254] John G. Cagle, The Cagle Family in the South to 1850, North Carolina [2nd Edition], (1997, Published by John G. Cagle, Box 55342, Little Rock, AR 72215), vi. After migrating from PA to NC, the Cagles seem to have lived in old Orange County for about 10 years, being situated on the upper reaches of the Deep River, in the eastern end of what is now Randolph County, NC. Johannes Kegel [John Cagle] appeared on the 1755 tax List of Orange County, NC, then as a chain carrier at a land survey in 1759, and finally as a witness to a deed in the mid-1760's. Charles and Henry Cagle, presumed to be brothers of John, also appeared in Orange County records, with Charles appearing as a chain carrier at a survey in 1761, and Henry appearing as a witness to a deed in the mid-1760's. Jacob Cagle [1755-1845] was born in April 1755 on the headwaters of the Deep River, according to his Revolutionary War Pension Application of 1834, but there remains question as to where he was the son of John or David Cagle. During the middle and late 1760's, the Cagles migrated into the adjoining Cumberland County, now Moore County. These men were John Cagle who later died in Moore County in 1799, commonly known as John "Dutchman" Cagle; Henry Cagle who died in Moore County in 1802; Charles Cagle, who left the area by 1770, and eventually died in 1801 in Montgomery County [now Stanly County, NC]; Johan Theobald Kegel [David Cagle], who left the county by 1769 and migrated to Rowan and Cabarrus Counties, NC. Also present is Leonard Cagle, who married Susanna Richardson in Cumberland County [now Moore] and migrated to Montgomery County [now Stanly] in the 1790's and to Clarke County, GA in the early 1800's. This Leonard, it is believed, was Leonard Jr., probable son of the immigrant Leonhart Kegel. It is possible that the five Cagles who lived in Cumberland in the 1760's -- John, Henry, Charles, David and Leonard -- were the original Cagle brothers who migrated from PA to NC in the 1750's and all sons of the immigrant Leonhart Kegel of Pennsylvania.
