1878, Apr 17 -- War of 1812 Pension, File 16714, Martin Cagle
Dicey Cagle (age 92), Troy Post Office, Montgomery County, NC resident and widow of Martin Cagle, applied for a widow's pension in Montgomery County, NC. Cagle stated that her deceased husband served under Captain William Dowd and was drafted in Moore County, NC on Aug 14, 1814 and discharged Mar 15, 1815. At the time of enlistment, he was described as 26 years old, 6' tall, dark complexion, hazel eyes and black hair. Martin Cagle and Dicy Bolin were married Sep 15, 1810 by Michael Haney, JP in Randolph County, NC. Martin Cagle died Mar 20, 1857 in Montgomery County, NC. He obtained a land warrant for his service in 1857. Malcolm M. Leach age 60, of Montgomery County, NC and David Allen age 50, of Montgomery County, NC, testified to having known Dicey Cagle as the wife of Martin Cagle. Wm. Britt and Gardner Boiling declared that Martin Cagle served with them. Bartholomew Dunn age 86, Leachs Store Post Office and Alsey Maness age 53, Leachs Store Post Office, testified to having known Cagle for 56 years and 45 years respectively.
1878, Apr 17 -- War of 1812 Pension, File 32094, Bartholomew Dunn
Bartholomew Dunn (age 86), Moore County, NC resident, applied for a pension in Montgomery County, NC. Dunn stated that he served under Captain William Dowd and was drafted at Shuffields, NC on Aug 14, 1814 and was discharged on Mar 15, 1815. At the time of enlistment, he was described as 22 years old, 5'6" tall, blue eyes, light hair and fair complexion. Alsey Maness age 53, Leachs Store Post Office and Martin Cagle age 53, Leachs Store Post Office, testified to having known Dunn for 45 years each and believed that he served in the War of 1812.
