Dear Brethren: I am Sister Halcomb; my maiden name was Martha E. Medlin, daughter of John L. Medlin and Polly Ann Medlin. I was born in Moore County, N. C, in 1860. My parents moved from there in 1867, or somewhere close to that date. My mother had one brother, William Zeno Richardson; his wife's name was Martha. My father had several sisters. One married John Collins; her name was Nancy. Another of his sisters married a Smith. I cannot remember very much about my people, but will say T am very much interested about them, and wish to ask you brethren in traveling through Moore County that you will investigate and see if you can help me to some of their genealogy, living or dead, as I am anxious to do work for those that are dead. I will highly appreciate the favor. I accepted the gospel in Floyd County, Ky., in 1899. Since that time my testimony has grown stronger. I came to Salt Lake City July 15, 1910, and have been in the house of the Lord and have done work for my mother and her mother and two of my sisters - Nancy Ann and Susanna. I am feeling well in the gospel and I know it is the power of God unto salvation to all that accept it, and my greatest desire is to live so that I may enjoy a goodly portion of the Holy Spirit and live worthy of every blessing that the Lord has in store for me, that I may cause others to see and understand what I now enjoy in the gospel. I know for myself that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and that the Book of Mormon is divine. I have suffered many prosecutions for the gospel's sake and am willing to stand the test by the help of the Lord, even unto death. Death would be sweet to me rather than give up my testimony of the gospel. I would like to have this put in Liahona as it may reach some one of my people living in another country, or may do some other soul good. Your sister in the faith, Martha E. Medlin Halcomb, 358 S. 3rd East, Salt Lake City, Utah.

My name is William Richardson and I am a descendent of William Zeno Richardson (great great grandfather) through his son Noah B. Richardson...I have not been able to link W.Z. Richardson to any of the other Richardsons in Moore County. The only clue that I have recently found is a letter in Liahona: The elders' Journal, Volume 10 from 1910 where Ms. Martha E.Medlin Halcomb (b. 1860 in Moore County, NC) recounts that her mother Polly Ann Medlin (m.John Lacker Medlin) had a brother named William Zeno Richardson who was married to Martha. She also states that her mothers first name was Sarah. I am at a dead end and unsure where to proceed from here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
