- 1819, May 17 -- Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty, File S41955, Mark Phillips
Mark Phillips (age 65), Moore County, NC resident living near the Carthage Courthouse, applied for a pension. Wm. Barrett, James Dowd and John Paterson submitted affidavits of support. On Aug 21, 1820, Mark Phillips (age 68) listed his occupation as farming and having three family members: wife Rany Phillips (age 67 and quite infirm), daughters Polly Phillips (age 21) and Rany Phillips Junr. (age 17). In 1837, a complaint was filed accusing pensioner Mark Phillips of having been a Tory during the Revolutionary War. Affidavits were filed by John Morrison, A.C. Curry, Samuel C. Bruce and Archibald Munroe disputing the claim. His date of death is listed as Aug 5, 1839 in a typed letter from the Department but no other notation of death in the file.
