A deed from Nancy Freeman, William R. Britt, Joseph Britt, and Zacariah Britt to Jonathan Richardson was proven by Rheubin Allen
Editor's Note: the land referenced above that was sold to Jonathan Richardson is the very same land referenced above as being owned by the "Heirs of Merryman Britt". It would lead to the speculation that Nancy Freeman, William R. Britt, Joseph Britt and Zachariah Britt were heirs of Merryman Britt. In the 1820 Census, Merryman Britt lists 1F born between 1794-1804 and 2M as being born between 1810-1820. Later census records show Nancy Freeman as being born around 1802 and William R. Britt c1815, Joseph Britt 1818, and Zachariah Britt c1814. If these dates are correct, she may have been too young to have been the mother of these children. But it is very possible that she was a bit older was their mother as she was listed in the 1830 Census as being born between 1790-1800. She was remarried John Freeman by 1845. John was much younger than Nancy and it is possible that she understated her age in the census. Another strong indicator is that John and Nancy Freeman are living next door to Zachariah Britt and William R. Britt in the 1850 Census. Based on the information above I am inclined to believe that Nancy was the wife of Merriman Britt and the mother of William R., Zachariah and Joseph Britt.
