The identity of this John Cagle has not been determined. His father may have been George Cagle b.1760/1770, son of John "Dutchman" Cagle. Elizabeth, age 90 in the 1850 census. might have been John's mother; however her age, if correct, would suggest a birth date c.1760. George's census records from 1790-1830 would suggest his wife was a bit younger [born 1765-1770]. John's rather large estate [$5,000] makes him by far the largest landowner among the Cagles in 1850. George Cagle was listed with several tracts in the 1815 Tax List. Perhaps John received most of his land by inheritance at George's death, if indeed he was George's son.
