  Notes	Mathew Davis and children sold two tracts of land that was previously owned by John Ritter land to Elizabeth Ritter in 1859 right before he and family migrated to Lafayette County, AR. Why did he have Ritter land? The fact that the deed is from he and his children lead me to believe that it was his wife's inheritance. Nancy McIntosh (1812-1856) is buried in the old Scotch Graveyard and on her tombstone it reads "wife of Mathew Davis and dtr. of Neill McIntosh. Some people online have her maiden name as Nancy Ritter. My belief is that Mathew immediately married Nancy McIntosh after Susannah died and he was a widower with several small children. Oral history in the Ritter family stated that John Ritter and Elizabeth Richardson had a daughter named Susannah. Susannah Davis (1809-1846) is buried in the Davis/Ritter cemetery with her parents John and Elizabeth Ritter. On the 1859 deeds from Mathew and children - it lists one of the adjoining tracts as belonging to Susannah Davis (this land had also previously been owned by John Ritter and was likely part of her inheritance). There is also a John Winson Davis (1844-1846) buried at the Davis cemetery who I am very confident was a child of Mathew Davis and Susannah Ritter. Lastly, in the 1840 census, there is a female aged 70-80 in his household. I am fairly confident this is Elizabeth Richardson Ritter.
