1832, Mar 9 -- Personal Correspondence
S.[imon] Murchison (Milledgeville, GA) to Simon McNeill (Caledonia, Moore County, NC). Dear Cousin: The revolution of time has brought me this far back towards NC after visiting many different places since I had the pleasure of seeing you. I presume you had strange ideas of me for not returning but such was the situation of my business that it was impossible. I wrote brother Daniel [Murchison] from Fayetteville when I left there but got no answer also from Natchez but both meet with silent reply. I am now on my way to Wilmington and Newbern and probably Charleston I wish you to write me to Wilmington when you receive this, what kind of a settlement you were able to make with Col A. McNeill and also if there is yet in existence any demands against me. I also enclosed $20 for Mother [Catherine Murchison] from Fayetteville let me know if that got to train. Be so good as to hire some person to work on the plan with Daniel [Murchison] and I will remit you the money to pay it. Should there be any more debts behind buy them as low as possible I will send you the money when you let me know of the same. I wish you to return to the Mississippi with me to see the country you can get back in the fall. I shall return in June or July if alive and nothing happens. Wish (Hope) I have luck I think it will be for your benefit. [If] you think you can go write me to that effect in your fist? if Daniel [Murchison] thinks proper to make the arrangement to go out he can do so and return with you or remain in that event John McDonald ought to move in his place - I am now writing by candlelight and very much fatigued. Therefore I must drop short -- John [Murchison] and Sally [Murchison] was well when I left home. You will give my respects to all the family which I expect they care very little about and be so kind as to keep his letter to yourself as I consider it confidential. Your brother Philip [McNeill] is married to R. McIvers sister in law last December. Your cousin S. Murchison. [Editor's Note: Original letter in possession of Mac Clabaugh, The Villages, FL]
