"Died in Carthage suddenly on Sunday night lats of paralysis of the brain, Mr. W.T. Jenkins. He was born Sep 1, 1813 and on the 5th of Aug 1835, married Miss Milbury Harrison, About 1 year later he entirely lost his eyesight by the bursting of a percussion cap while in the act of shooting a gun. He was a tailor by trade but after marrying became a successful merchant and lost everything by the war. Mr. Jenkins joined the M.E. Church in 1834...he even gave the ground on which the church now stands as well as the graveyard where now rests the ashes of himself and his faithful wife."
