John M. Bailey and Julia Ann Elizabeth Blake late 1800s

"In the picture of John and Julia seated, it is speculated that the scarf around Julia's neck is the scarf referenced below.

John was in the Civil War and was shot and captured. Here is a story of his ordeal as told by my grandmother and historical records.

John Bailey, my Great Great Grandfather, was in the Civil War and was a member of the Company C, North Carolina 3rd Infantry Regiment. He enlisted on June 20th 1862.

From July 1st 1862 until December 3rd 1863 his Regiment fought in 81 battles. In the battle of Mine Run John got shot in the chest and had to push a silk handkerchief into the bullet hole to keep from bleeding to death. Due to his wound he was captured by the Union Army was taken to Fort Delaware Civil War Prison.
