1782 Map of Cumberland County including present day Moore County

This 1782 map was prepared by an unidentified cartographer/surveyor, probably to accompany the 1784 petition to the General Assembly to create a new county from the northwest part of Cumberland County. The map portrays the boundaries of Cumberland County in 1782 and shows rivers and creeks, roads, residences of some individuals, and other landmarks. Four potential dividing lines are recorded on the map. The proposed line from Cole's Bridge on Drowning Creek to the Wake County line is the one adopted in the act creating Moore County in 1784. Portions of surrounding counties are also portrayed.
