Blue and Gray Civil War Soldiers Reunion held on Thursday, March 19, 1908 in Carthage, N.C. with the Sinclair Brothers Store Building in the left background. The Moore County Courthouse located in the traffic circle seems to be to the immediate left in the foreground with Monroe Street coming from the right. The original photograph was donated to the Carthage Museum by Max M. Way, a native of Carthage, N.C. whose grandfather worked for Tyson & Jones Buggy Company. Max M. Way was living in Graham, N.C. on October 31, 1996 when Woodrow Wilhoit acknowledged his gift in "The Pilot" newspaper in Southern Pines, N.C.
According to the Diary of Rev. William Henry Harrison Lawhon dated Thursday, March 19, 1908- "Wife (Nora E. Vestal Lawhon) and I got to Carthage to the reunion of the old soldiers of Blue and Gray. We have a big crowd an a good time the ladies of Carthage gave us a good dinner."
