From gramps2@bellsouth.net:
Albert Moore is listed in the 1850 Moore County census, under Drusilla Moore. The next census listing we found for him was the 1880 Alamance County census. His oldest daughter, Martha Jane, may have stayed in Alamance County, as she married William J. Hill there, December 22, 1885. We also found a delayed birth certificate for his seventh child, Thomas Wesley, May 25, 1881, in Moore County, NC. The 1900 census lists Albert J. Moore and wife, Martha Jane living in Chatham County.
There is a record of an Albert James Moore listed in Volume 4, page 140, of NC Troops 1861 to 1865, that reads; Co A, 5th Reg. N.C. State Troops, Private, resided in Moore or Chatham County and enlisted in Wake County, July 15, 1862 for the war. Deserted near Fredricksburg, Virginia, May 15, 1863. It should be noted that his unit was in a large battle at Chancellorsville, Virginia May 1863 and he may have been wounded at that time. His Great-Grandson, Curtis Moore remembers being told that Albert was wounded in the knee and still had a mini-ball there when he died. Also, some soldiers listed as deserters were later found to be serving in another unit because of limited record keeping. We found his name listed as James A. or J.A. Moore on three of his son's marriage license and A.J. or Albert on two son's and one daughter's marriage license. Also, his youngest son, Rufus Cleveland's marriage license, dated November 25, 1903, list both his father and mother as dead. The marriage license for Charlie, dated September 06, 1901 and Thomas Wesley, dated November 18, 1901, list the father living and the mother dead.
