Based on information left by Burrel Deaton, we have been able to identify James Key's parents as THOMAS KEY and ABIGAIL (?). In a handwritten note found in 1980, in a drawer of his home in Moore County, NC, Mr Deaton wrote, "My g-grandfather, TOM KEY (English) was from Virginia, a close relative of Francis Scott Key--Methodist and Whig and farmer, about 98, very musical. My g-grandmother, ABIGAIL KEY--musical and good housewife--age 80-Methodist. My grandfather, JIM KEY, Methodist, Democrat, farmer--very quiet man, age 68. My grandmother, SABILLE KEY, Methodist, very kind and considerate--good singer-85. The Deatons were not much musical, but Keys were all musical, both instrumental and vocal--All were born and raised in Moore Co., NC.
