- 1836, Aug 2-Spring 1838 -- Estate, Randolph County, NC
Estate of Bradley Garner, Dec'd. by Administrator Alfred Brower v. John Garner. Witnesses: Aaron Kennedy, Charles Brady, Henry Yow Jr., Bryan Borrows/Buroughs, Bailey Williamson, James Gains, John Phillips, Huldah Myrick, Daniel McNeill, Andrew Yow, John Manor Jr., Eli Brower and Cornelius Shields. Deposition of Biddy Garner taken at Mechanics Hill in Moore County Aug 1, 1837 - "Some eight or nine months before Bradley Garner Sr. died he was taken sick and sent for his son John to come and see him and that John had gone to Fayetteville and on his return visited his father...the first I recollect hearing was Bradley Garner telling John that Ruth would rather live with him than any of his other children, upon which I replied that Mary wanted to live with John also, Bradley Garner replied that he could not give Mary to John that he had already given John, King and Martin and he could give him every thing for Mary and the land must be sold". Questions by defendant, Biddy Garner stated that "Mary was a negro purchased by the "old man" from Thomas Matthews after he had given a bill of sale some time past for some other negroes to John Garner. Ruth, Martin and King were some of the negroes conveyed in this bill of sale by Bradley Garner to John Garner. Martin and King are the same negroes about which the plaintiff and the defendant are now at law." Biddy Garner married a son of Bradley Garner. She lived about two or three hundred yards from him and visited him daily."
